Dennis H. Stefanowicz
Attorney at Law

Mr. Stefanowicz graduated from DePaul University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and was accepted into the Pi Sigma Alpha Honor Society, with which he still holds membership. He received his Juris Doctorate degree from DePaul University after completing his legal studies at DePaul and the University of Innsbruck, Austria, where he studied under William Rehnquist, Chief Judge of the United States Supreme Court. While at DePaul University he was a member of the DePaul Business Law Journal, first as a staff writer and elevated to the position of Managing Editor of Notes and Comments.  After Law School, Mr. Stefanowicz was appointed to serve one term as a board member for the DePaul College of Law Alumni Board.  He continued his involvement with DePaul University by serving two terms on the DePaul University Alumni Board.   

 

Mr. Stefanowicz is admitted to practice law in the State of Illinois.  He is a member of the Federal Trial Bar in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.  He is also admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of the United States of America.

 

Mr. Stefanowicz is a zealous litigator and seasoned negotiator who has recovered millions of dollars on behalf of a wide variety of clients. His track record includes resolving many cases with values exceeding seven figures in personal injury, medical/professional negligence, motor vehicle, elevator failure, premises liability, product liability, Whistleblower (Qui Tam), commercial and breach of contract claims.  His experience includes trial work (in person and remotely) at the state and federal levels.  He also has significant alternative dispute experience as an Arbitrator for the Circuit Court of Cook County, an independent Arbitrator and he has resolved many cases via settlement conferences and mediation, both private and court ordered.

 

From 2009-2012 & 2014-2022 Mr. Stefanowicz was selected as an Illinois Super Lawyer in the general personal injury litigation field. Super Lawyers is an annual listing of outstanding lawyers who have attained high peer recognition and professional achievement. The Super Lawyer honor is given to less than five percent of Illinois attorneys each year.

Mr. Stefanowicz is a member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, including the sub-sections of Tort, Labor & Employment Law, The National Employment Lawyers Association – Illinois Affiliate, and the Advocates Society which is an association of Polish-American attorneys.  As a member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, he was appointed to and worked on the sub-committees for medical negligence and legislative review and has served on ITLA’s Board of Managers.  As a member of the ISBA & ITLA, he is a published author (See Illinois State Bar Association, Trial Briefs, Vol. 46, No. 2 (Liability in diving cases: rarely open and obvious) and Vol. 47, No. 2 (The importance of prompt settlement notice in the prosecution of under-insured motorist claims), ITLA, Trial Journal (Understanding Damages Calculations in Promissory Fraud False Claims Act Cases (Qui Tam Cases): A Primer for Realtor’s Counsel Practicing in the Seventh Circuit after U.S. vs. Anchor Mortgage) Summer 2016 and has been appointed to work on the sub-committees for the ARDC, Civil Practice and Procedure, Cable Television Programming, Judicial Candidate Evaluations, the Allerton House Conference, Publications and Medical Malpractice.  Mr. Stefanowicz has lectured for the National Business Institute on Nursing Home Malpractice, served as an invited panelist for Law Day at the DePaul College of Law and has presented to the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association.  Mr. Stefanowicz’s professional experience also includes volunteering at the Amicus Poloniae Legal Clinic in Chicago, Illinois.

 

His personal experience includes four years as a law enforcement officer, coaching youth sports and he is currently serving a fifth four-year term as a Trustee for Norwood Park Township.  Mr. Stefanowicz enjoys traveling with his family and notes Kamakura, Japan, Chichen Itza, Mexico and Venice, Italy as a few of his favorite destinations.
